Needs Beyond Medicine: Financial Help for Utah Cancer Patients

When a cancer diagnosis arrives, the medical bills are only part of the problem. Groceries still need buying. Rent still comes due. Utility bills don’t pause for chemotherapy. Needs Beyond Medicine exists to cover those gaps.

What They Offer

Needs Beyond Medicine is a nonprofit that provides financial assistance to Utah cancer patients 18 years and older who are in active treatment. The money goes toward non-medical expenses: groceries, utilities, transportation, and rent. The organization serves approximately 18 patients per month. Funding comes from grants and community fundraisers.

Beyond financial assistance, the organization also provides educational sessions on early signs and symptoms of cancer.

Who Qualifies

Utah residents, 18 years and older, currently in active cancer treatment. The program is statewide, not limited to Sanpete County.

How to Access

Contact Needs Beyond Medicine directly. Founder Phil Brown presented to the North Sanpete Cares Coalition on October 6, 2025, and information about the organization is available through the Sanpete Cares Coalitions. Contact Jocie Rojas at jocelyner@cucc.us for a referral or more details.

Why This Matters for Sanpete County

Sanpete County is rural. The nearest major medical centers are in Provo or Salt Lake City. A cancer diagnosis here means treatment often involves significant travel on top of everything else. Programs like Needs Beyond Medicine fill a gap that residents may not know exists until they need it.

If you or someone you know is dealing with a cancer diagnosis and struggling with non-medical expenses, this resource is available and active.
